I have to hand it to him, he showed great restraint. I think a fairly high percentage would have shot the guy. I'm not at all against the idea of body cams. The way I look at it....if you're doing the right thing, it doesn't matter whose watching. That's the way I've always measured integrity and it hasn't failed me so far.

This is a "good news" story that we would probably not even know about were it not for the officer's body cam.

I'm glad that the police caught a break and are getting good press. The suspect owes his life to this combat Marine. I sit here shaking my head at the countless mistakes that were made by the officer and how lucky he is to be alive. This cop is so terrified of being in the hotseat that he puts himself at totally unnecessary risk. If that accused murderer had a weapon on him, or taken advantage of the situation when the cop fell as he retreated, it would have been all over. The cop pulled it off because he was a f'n badass Marine with plenty of trigger time and experience that only a small portion of cops could hope to have. If you had 100 cops go through that scenario with only academy training and a year on the street, how many would have real command of the situation? I hope this doesn't become the new standard for using deadly force. In combat, that suspect would have zero chance for survival. I don't want to seem like a big meanie, but I would have slept like a baby after dropping that fool. Stand your ground and do the right thing LEO's, but don't leave widows and orphans because of the media. Perhaps body cams should be standard as well as dash cams, for everyone's benefit.

SFC Mark Merino. I think you are absolutely correct here. I think the cop (Marine) was very concerned about being the next "bad cop" and put his life at very unnecessary risk. I have no issue with the camera's but I do think this situation points out the other side of them. The cops, knowing everyone will be watching the video put their life at risk to be sure they will not be harshly judged.
I glad this turned out well but it could have very easily gone the other way. When he fell, had the assailant been armed he could have easily shot him then. Game over.
