Not sure if you are following the incident in Oknawa. A DoD Civilian (former US Marine) was arrested for disposing a body of 20 year old Okinawan female. (I read in other articles that this man also admitted on kidnapping, raping and murdering her as well) .
I do have a mixed feeling about this period of mourning. It prohibits all US Service members (and strongly recommend the SOFA members) from consumption of alcohol off post for the period of 30 days, as well as a stricter curfew policy for the duration. It seems to me "punishing all 50,000 Service members/SOFA personnel living in Okinawa for one person's evil act. However I am in Mainland Japan and I don't have the first hand knowledge of the climate in Okinawa - perhaps it is necessary to repair the relationship between US and Okinawa.
