Since the Coast Guard is usually involved in so many "Rescue Situations" IMHO they are considered good Ambassadors worldwide.

The Coast Guard is also tasked with helping to enforce international maritime law, eg., smuggling (drugs, arms); illegal alien migration; treaties and accords of which the US is a signatory, and other issues with which they are called upon or are directed at the request to the US of a foreign nation or DoD assets. It's a big mixed bag of federal regulations and other things tossed in. So being Semper Paratus isn't just a slogan.

SCPO Bill Bowen - All that is true, but if the Navy had signed a MOU China could have taken it as a potential Hostile action, whereas the CG is more the good ambassador.

The USCG is still the Gold Standard among Coast Guards. Even China models their operations after the USCG, and uses a similar paint scheme. BTW, the USCG also has elements deployed with the 5th and 6th fleets, and likely the 4th as well.

Good on the coasties. The partnership has been beneficial as long as I remember. The last paragraph is the meat of the nut. This 280 vessel Navy is simply too small.

Well I was taught in boot camp that the USCG was the hard nut that the Navy formed around in times of war. 8-P
