Pretty typical SAC mission except for first use of a new weapon. For years SAC aircrews trained to perform their SIOP mission which involved long missions into the Soviet Union. The difference here is that there were post strike tankers that allowed the aircraft to return to home base. When I was first in SAC we were still performing 24 hour airborne alert missions and routine training missions were 12 - 14 hours. This is all just part of a bomber aircrews life.
