PO1 Tony Holland If you are looking to Washington for any real leadership, you will be disappointed every time. I am not willing to give up the right to keep and bear arms no matter how many ass clowns use a firearm to commit a horrible act. I am also not willing to give up my driving privileges just because some ass clown uses a truck to mow down innocent people. Instead of more gun laws, how about holding criminals more responsible for their crimes. Kill someone, get convicted, you die. No life sentence, no fifty years on death row, you take a dirt nap next week. If violent criminals faced a violent sentence, they may actually think about what they are doing. When going to prison is an upgrade in lifestyle, it is not a deterrent.

CPT (Anonymous) - Make no mistake, I am not saying deny due process. I cannot say that I don't want rights trampled, but take away due process. I just think that once a person is sentenced to death, it should be carried out. It shouldn't be delayed for years. Trial, conviction, automatic appeal, validation, execution.
You may be right that it wouldn't be a deterrent, but it would certainly prevent repeat offenses.

One other thing. The death penalty needs to be violent and painful -- hanging, firing squad, gas chamber, or old sparky. Save the nice comfy needle for those capital criminals who are disease-free and agree to donate their organs.

CPT (Anonymous) - The ONLY reason the death penalty isn't an effective deterrent is because it is so rarely and sporadically applied. But even if it isn't an effective deterrent, it is a damned effective punishment with a zero percent recidivism rate, and therefore useful on that basis alone.
