Opinion | Yes, Trump did so prepare for the North Korean talks

The last time the US had senior level talks with North Korea was the 2005 six-party talks, when North Korea promised to abandon all nuclear weapons. I don't hold out much hope for Trump's success, just based on History. But Trump's willingness to come to the negotiating table proved those critics wrong who claimed he was a warmonger aimed at starting a war.

You may be right, but then again "sure" is a very strong word. I have already been surprised that this summit is actually happening. While I have learned to manage expectations with respect to North Korea, I am prepared to be surprised again if we actually pull off a diplomatic victory that is beneficial to the U.S. and our regional allies. We will see.
