My wife's Dad got a Bronze for leading a minefield charge wpat the Moselle River during the Battle of Nancy from France into Germany with the 90th Div under Gen. Patton. Also, my Dad's sister's husband, my uncle, was one of Gen. Eisenhower's radio operators at Southwidj House under SHAEF in the UKmbefore D Day with the 3118th Signal Svc Battln/GRP, he helped send the Telex of the German surrender, he saw the Germans being driven in at the little red schoolhouse in Reims, Germany, and swiped one of the flimsymcopies as a souvenir, which he and my aunt displayed at a library on Long Island every Meml Day, 4th of July, and Vets Day, my cousins still have it in a safe deposit box,!I've been dying to see it for ages, maybe have them donate it on loan to the WW2 museum. Gen. Eisenhower also very briefly remembered !y uncle when my uncle graduated from Columbia Univ while Gen Eisenhower was its president before being elected. My uncle was his unit comedian, he was in the commo trailer next to the trailer of Gen Eisenhower at Southwick House, he'd mentioned that to my uncle on the steps of the Columbia Univ library at his graduation. Most of the other grads were also there in the GI Bill as he was. The adie handing the diplomas to the General was appalled at his candor, totally taken aback, however, the General squinted at my uncle through his pince mez metal rimmed glasses, and recognized him as that funny little SSgt in the nearby commo trailer, which I'd always found amusing, obviously, hope was of interest, many thanks.
