When I was in Germany in the '70s, I had the privilege to be partnered with a German Home Defense Command in the Ulm/Dornstadt area. My Company (I was the XO) used to check out a 44 passenger bus and take members of my unit to Rommelkaserne to qualify on German Small Arms. My Contact, a retired Oberfeldwebel, arranged for me to take a ride on a Leopard II - it was the ride of my life. Afterward, we all went over to Dornstadt and spent the rest of the afternoon drinking beer and tossing bottle caps at each other; I miss those days, and the camaraderie we had with our German colleagues. :-)
