Good initiative, bad judgment. He did the right thing, or attempted to atleast.
I highly doubt his alcohol/cocaine usage is even remotely a factor here, he was going to jump either way.

Randy Brumit
September 13 at 10:34pm

The recent article on my son, SFC Tim Brumit's fight stated; "A U.S. Army spokesman declined to comment on the Brumit case, but a spokesman for the U.S. Army’s Special Operations Command based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, said LTG Ken Tovo is studying the case. “First and foremost, the command is sympathetic to SFC Brumit’s tragic injury. The USASOC Commander is currently considering providing support to SFC Brumit’s request for reconsideration,” LTC Rob Bockholt emailed Friday."

We received word today that the USASOC Commander, LTG Tovo has written a letter of support to the US Army HRC Commander for a" Line of Duty" reconsideration in Tim's favor to allow him to have the benefits he deserves. Needless to say, we are overjoyed and thankful that LTG Tovo reviewed the facts of the case and rendered a favorable decision to support a "Line of Duty Yes" for Tim by the US Army HRC. Thank you all for your incredible support and outpouring of prayers and kind words.

A coked up Green Beret. That thought is terrifying. I feel for the guy. With that many deployments under his belt, I can see where the illicit drug use comes into play. But rules is rules. PTSD is a diminishing factor for reckless behavior, but it's not an excuse. When we realize we are having problems it is our responsibility to get the help that we need.

It appears that Mr. Brumit attempted to get that help, but was denied it by his chain of command. I'm unsure of all of the details, but if statements are true, his CSM pulled him from ADAPS (or whatever they're calling it now). If Mr. Brumit has evidence of this, then the military is liable. It's for that reason, I believe that LTG Tovo wrote a letter of support to the US Army HRC Commander. If the Army is going to use and abuse soldiers, they are required to also fix the abuse. Just my two cents.
