1979 AIT at Benning. The DI's randomly picked a handful of us to train on the TOW and DRAGON.
I was sent to TOW training. I ended up as the top gunner so I got to shoot the live missile. That was pretty cool. I even have a plaque for it. When I got to Bragg I was sent to a 11B line unit instead of a 11H unit.
Shortly after getting to my unit , they sent me to DRAGON school and I got to jump and hump that thing all over the place. That was a pain in the ass.
I got to shoot both systems. I was very impressed with the TOW. That thing was smooth.
The DRAGON had to be man handled and it had a pretty good kick to it. When that thing fired, you had to regain your sight picture or that thing would go haywire. The missile had these small size circular charges that would go off for corrections to the movement of the sight reticle.
Anyways, after seeing the article. I had flashbacks about that dang DRAGON.
