I graduated in 1985. There was always pickups with rifle racks in the rear window and 9 times out of there was a gun in it. Guess the butt whipping we got when we did something wrong worked.

That it did. We used a blank pistol with blanks in an in the classroom reading of West Side Story in Jr High with no questions at all. And in a high school halftime show honoring the Services, we used a real functioning M-1 carbine for the Iwo Jima flag raising. No eyebrows raised at all. Times have totally changed.

Carey Boles I am pretty sure you get arrested for mentioning a butt whipping nowadays. I was not often on the receiving end of a butt whipping, I had two younger brothers, and we all learned from each other's mistakes. Nothing to fix behavior quickly like hearing the words "bring me the paddle"

Great article, While I am not in the 65+ club yet I still have a decade plus 1 to hit that area, I can recall seeing firearms in the Sears Catalog.
