The GOP may be done for a generation. This is coming from someone whose first political election was as a member of the GOP voting for Reagan. The party will not survive as "democrat lite" and the current chasm reveals that to anyone paying attention.

Of course, the country with essentially a one party rule (democrats) will drive us into insolvency and a financial crises the likes of which we have never seen (at least in our lifetime).

It is too early to tell but the 13 million people that voted for Trump that were then done in by some in the GOP establishment may spell doom for the party. If we get a term of HRC, the next election cycle may be the most interesting in our lifetime. Yes, even more so than this one.

It may be sad but I think it may be necessary. The GOP has a large element of it's supporters that do not care for establishment candidates. The democrats do not have that issue really. Sanders got traction because Hillary is such a poor candidate.

The GOP needs to bring forward better candidates that are not establishment or are at least real conservatives. Trump has gained traction because of his outsider messaging and willingness to fight against the insiders.

MAJ Carl Ballinger. The reason they run the primaries is so they are sure there is alignment between the party and their voter base. They were simply outmaneuvered by Trump. They thought he had no chance and they got surprised by voter disgust with their candidate pool. Like it or not, Trump beat all comers handily not because he was the best candidate but because he was not the GOP insider candidate.

Ryan's reelection was never in doubt. Trump didn't even win Ryan's district during the Wisconsin primary. So Ryan winning doesn't really foretell anything. But the republican party is in trouble. An increasing majority of Americans is rejecting their ideas. But they can't ever admit that. Each presidential election they lose, they claim that their candidate wasn't conservative enough, and that next time they will run an even "purer" conservative. So it will be McCain, Romney, and now Trump weren't real conservatives, and all we need to do is run a real one, and we will win.

So this year all the "true" conservatives ran, and all got beat by a nut case. Even the republican base recognizes that the republicans can't govern, and reject their candidates.

MAJ Carl Ballinger - Well, I don't necessarily agree with your assessment, but I do agree that it would have presented a clearer contest between the two ideologies.

IT IS CLEAR TOO MANY VETERANS HAVE FORGOTTEN WHEN THE CLINTONS WERE IN THE WHITE HOUSE 20 YEARS AGO… AND THEIR 2 FACED, DOUBLE STANDARD, , BACK STABBING, DOUBLE DEALINGS, IMPOSED ON THE MILITARY AND THE REST OF THE AMERICAN POPULATION...
THIS MORON WILL LEAD THE GOP TO THE DNC SLAUGHTER OF ANY ONE OPPOSING THEM...

Which moron? I certainly remember too well the previous Clinton White House. And I can't vote for Trump. I would happily accept a moderate, presidential knowledgable candidate that has American interests at heart. Do you know of an alternative?
