NEW YORK — David Petraeus' former lover says "it was a bit of a shocker" to learn the retired four-star general was being considered by President-elect Donald Trump for a Cabinet position. Former Army officer Paula Broadwell told CBS News in an interview broadcast Thursday that she was happy for him because he "should be able to go on with his life." She says she hasn't been allowed to move on with hers since the affair became known publicly in 2012.
Petraeus pleaded guilty last year to giving Broadwell classified information while she was writing his biography. Broadwell wasn't charged, but the Army demoted and reprimanded her.
Broadwell says she's been denied opportunities since, including one at a prominent bank. She says she's speaking out now to get her life back.

It must be tremendously hard on vets and other honest and moral people who knew Gen P during his career and watched him rise to one of the most top-level positions in the armed forces. It must be equally as troubling to see how easily he was seduced into spilling classified information to a woman. One offense is egregious in the eyes of God and the other equally as bad in the eyes of man. Perhaps a true window into his real character. He betrays his wife and family and betrays his country at the same time. That is a double perfecta. To blithely disregard or ignore his offenses at any level is a vivid example of how far we as a nation have yet to go in achieving equal status for all people.
