I know it's the Onion...I get that it's "humor", and I realize that far worse has been said about other leaders for equally inane reasons. However, I'm going to take issue with this one...please forgive me for speaking from the heart.

We don't live in a theocracy. For better or worse, Americans (presumably) have the right to approach the question of God in their own way...whether they worship the God of Abraham, Thor, a fifty year old copy of Superman, or nothing. Pence claims to be a Christian, and that's his right; a right most of us here swore to defend, and thousands have died defending. If we've grown so indignant, so spiteful, and so partisan that the best way to express our political leanings is to crudely insult leaders we disagree with on a platform supposedly aimed at helping veterans find fellowship and help...then I am truly disappointed.

And yes- I'm equally disappointed when other "Christians" feel the appropriate response is vitriolic hyperbole and viciousness, such as was recently in the news. Such behavior doesn't reflect what Christ taught, or what common sense would inform me to be an effective means of changing opinions.

There are debates that can change people's views, open others eyes, and lead to positive change. There are some arguments that need to be had, because the consequences are so significant. If we want to discuss the issues and express our thoughts and experiences, I'm all for it, and can do so without insulting or denigrating those I may disagree with... but this sort of thing loses me because there is no debate to be had, no question to answer, and no solution to be found.
