What amazes me with all the CCW's out there, most have zero idea what a real gun fight is like or how it feels. Its nothing like what they show in the movies.

PO2 Saffell....I agree and that I stress continual training and practice...ie dry fire and range time. The CCDW process is just the start. Most people take the minimal the basic classes, take the test and pass the range qualification. At best they are "legal" and half ass prepared.
So when talking to someone who wants to carry, I always recommend they join US Concealed Carry Association and plug into their training and legal network. They should also take the time to view the CD set done by Patrick Kilchermann of the Concealed Carry University (concealedcarryuniversity.org) which is an in-depth look into being a responsibly armed citizen. Patrick breaks down what we have learned in the military into something those "civilians at heart" can understand and use.
Last but not least, I recommend they pug into a local gun club that how periodic completive pistol, steel on steel and three gun matches. There is something about being part of a community that takes gun safety seriously while having fun. USPSA type shoots can only sharpen the skill sets.
