Today is a special day for my wife and me. It is the 150th Anniversary of the completion of the westward Union Pacific Railroad and the eastward Central Pacific Railroad when they met at Promontory Point, Utah, on May 10, 1869. The famous Golden Spike was driven multiple times that day with gold spikes being presented to the most prominent representatives in attendance. My wife, Tina, retired from UP in 2013. I served on the Board or Directors of the Union Pacific Railroad Museum for several years, retiring as its president in 2008. Union Pacific was and remains a tremendous company. It’s history is pure American history, not always perfect, but always American, with America in mind.
