At least eight people died from being exposed to the cold. I imagine that there will be more than a few more deaths of at-risk people (homeless specifically) who will die from this cold. Crime rates in homeless are higher than national averages as well. What's the point?
Back a few weeks ago, we were told that $6 billion for a wall to keep some illegal immigrants out of the country wasn't really a lot of money because it's .05% of the budget - no biggie for such great gains.
For that same $6 billion, we could provide every single homeless person in the country with a $900 apartment for a year. That would have saved actual, countable, American lives in the last week and more in the coming days. It would reduce crime in every single city in the country and give people an opportunity to get back on their feet.
Seriously. Every single homeless person in America (554,000) could have a place to sleep - that isn't a shelter or street - if we cared as much about them as we do about maybe keeping illegal immigrants from crossing through the empty deserts into the country.
