Since the founding local police have had zero obligation to enforce Federal law, where did you gt the idea that they did?

There obligation lies in not defending illegal actions, of any sort. when you have the Chief of Police going on record saying that he defends the practice of illegal immigration and will not cooperate with those trying to enforce the law then there is a problem.

LTC (Join to see) - That is not a legal obligation, if so please cite the law or the case.

Outstanding decision Chief Basurto if that's the direction you feel your agency needs to go, and is in line with the people within your jurisdiction you swore to uphold the law to. Since you no longer wish to deal in reciprocity with Federal Law Enforcement officials that should mean no more assistance to you either. Good luck running your agency without any Federal funding that any significant law enforcement agency in the country needs to remain viable. Cut them off from NCIS access as well as any other Federally supported programs to include FBI assistance.

On a side note, since Chief Basurto decided to issue his statement in Spanish only does that mean he is only extending his sanctuary status to those from South, Central and North America? What about those from the Orient...oops I meant Asia...and from any other part of the world? Are they just not part of the cool kids club?

So state police understand their jobs. Excellent, and duly noted.
