I self sponsored myself through a Public Safety Training Academy in 2013. This basic academy was very similar to the BCT in the army. One interesting difference included that the army created stressful situations for the privates to adapt. The Army does not let the privates return home at the end of the day. The Public Safety Training Academy also created stressful situations, but we had to go home and turn around and come back the next day. This difference taught me that in the Public Safety Academy I could be excused from the program at any time. To me, this knowledge reflected that first responders and police officers that work on the line do so to serve the community and never know when they could be called home. I am glad I earned that experience because I found an abiding respect for those service people that walk the line every day.
