Police: Prisoner serving time for attempted murder of officers escapes, now on run in Md.

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (ABC7) — Several police agencies across Maryland are searching for an inmate who escaped from custody Friday morning.
Police say David M. Watson II, 28, was being transported to the Clifton T. Perkins Psychiatric Hospital Center for a mental evaluation in Jessup by two guards from the Wicomico County Detention Center in Salisbury, when he pushed one guard to the ground on hospital property and ran off into the woods at around 9:40 a.m.
Handcuffs and and a waist chain were found at the scene, but it is unclear if he was wearing leg shackles.
George Kaloroumakis, Director of the Wicomico County Corrections Center, says how Watson was able to free himself from his restraints is "under investigation."

Police say Watson was last seen in the area of Dorsey Run Road and Patuxent Range Road. At this time, they cannot confirm what he may be wearing as they say they've found “several articles of clothing” in the woods where he escaped.
A K9 trail was established, but officers lost sight of him and have not seen Watson in the area since he escaped.
“They lost sight of him in the woods, but we were able to establish a K9 trail, so we know what direction he was heading," said Sherry Llewellyn, a Howard County Police Department spokesperson.
Authorities do not believe he is armed, as the guards locked weapons in a safe box prior to opening a van door.
Watson is serving a 106 year sentence in Delaware and also faces charges for attempted murder in Wicomico County for allegedly shooting at the homes of three police officers in 2013.

Police are urging people in the area to be alert, and say if you see him, do not approach him and call police immediately.

“There’s no indication if this was something planned in advance or an impulsive act in the moment," said Llewellyn.

Police describe Watson as a white male, 5-foot-8-inches tall and weighs about 140 pounds. He also has several tattoos.
Police released more photos of them on Friday evening. They include the words "evil," "Watson," and "187."

Police searched for Watson all through the night on Friday.
On Saturday they released another photo of Watson, who they say has been known to wear glasses.

The Howard County Police are also offering an award of up to $5,000 for information on Watson's whereabouts.
