Bill Rausch, executive director of the veteran advocacy group Got Your 6, which works to portray veterans in a favorable light, said that though some talk of the recent shootings gives an inaccurate picture of veterans, it is a portrayal that has entered the national conversation. Mr. Rausch said groups like his are trying to dispel notions that the killings represent normal veteran behavior.
