They talk about all of them, the thousands of them, but only mention the ones that would cause, or have caused, public outcry.
Here's one of the thousands in the past decade which was justified. December 16, 2012. Topeka, KS. Cpl David Gogian and Ofc Jeff Atherly are dispatched to a suspicious vehicle in the Dillon's parking lot at Lane and 12th. The suspect, David Tiscarino, was laying down in the back seat and shot Cpl Gogian and Ofc Atherly, leaving them for dead in the parking lot. Almost six hours after this shooting, Tiscarino was found in a residence. When he exited, he raised his gun and was shot.
There is no public outcry for Law Enforcement Officer's killed in the line of duty? That's right, no one cares.

SGT Mick F. I'm not surprised by your response. I'm not saying Law Enforcement doesn't have to bear blame, but I'm not near the asshole people treat me.
And you said the magic words. Training. Excluding Range Time, I get, at a minimum and usually maximum of, 40 hours of training a year. And I don't often get over those 40 hours, because of staffing problems and budget issues. And because of a plethora of false claims nationally, to the tune of 250:1, ten of those hours have been devoted to Racial or Other Biased Policing training.
So, yes, Western European Law Enforcement are better off than American, because of an excessive amount of training American Agencies can't afford or don't have time for. But, there's also a respect for their Law Enforcement, which used to exist in America. You still wish to blame Law Enforcement solely, by lacking to state the public had any effect/influence on it. I'm saying both sides are to blame. And Law Enforcement can change all it wants, but as long as people keep going out of their way to be disrespectful to Law Enforcement.

Oh, SGT Mick F.…
You make it sound like you do blame the profession, though. Just the title of the article alone screams a distain towards Law Enforcement.
Union and Self-accountability system? You must be talking about some large city. Let me tell you how wrong you are. I'm a White Law Enforcement Officer who works for an Indian Reservation. Just of premise alone, my job is never safe. There's no Union/FOP to "protect" me by providing legal services if needed and the accountability aspect is a Tribal Police Commission, who will not stop for one second to fire me over the most pathetic reasons. Luckily, I have a Chief of Police who is Tribal and knows his job.
And it's not just a race thing, as described. I worked for a Class III City (Class III is a City in this State where the population is less than 2,500 and still goverentally dependent on facilities from the Township and County). I was fired because the Convenient Store clerks would not accept my money for fountain drinks. I always put cash or my debit card on the counter. If they didn't accept, I would leave the cash on the counter and walk out, always enough to cover the fountain drink I brought to the register. Chew on that a minute.
Your statement of "Every department has a small minority of incompetent, hyperagressive, dangerous or otherwise unstable folks on patrol" is one of the most grossly inaccurate anti-Law Enforcement statement you could make. If you truly believe that statement, you will never be happy with anything a Law Enforcement Officer will ever do, because you will never run out of axe to grind. And that's sickening.
"That's why I advise anyone encountering an LEO to just obey and comply, it just isn't worth the beating or loss of life They can and will get away with." Do you really believe that? Are you for real? Did a family member burn anti-Law Enforcement logic into your skull when you were a child or did a College Professor turn your ideals? That's is a highly inaccurate statement. I have been a Civilian Law Enforcement Officer for almost nine years and I was an MP for seven. I have not killed anyone, nor have I just started beating on anyone "because they didn't comply." And as an MP, I would have been drastically more protected than in the Civilian world. I hit or taze someone who I've came up on scene and saw that person hit someone else. And a complaint is worth the paper it's put on, if the complaint is a legit complaint. I have one legit and 17 bullshit complaints. My legit complaint was a misunderstanding of a new municipal ordinace I hadn't had a chance to read. The 17 complaints varried from complaining about me driving fast with my lights and sirens on (I saved the 81 year old woman's life with CPR, and I wasn't driving recklessly) to stopping someone, and not writing them, for not wearing their seatbelt.
In regards to your situation, I'm sorry it happened, however, when I went through the Police Academy, none of that was covered. And I had a situation similar to yours and I never acted in the manner you encountered. I made phone calls, figured it out and explained I had never encountered this kind of issue and apologized to the length of the traffic stop.
You said, "respect is a two way street," well, I've been disrespected more than I've been respected. I have been video recorded 28 times by a cell phone, so far. Those 28 interactions, I acted the same as the countless other where I wasn't recorded. Guess what? Not a single one of those 28 were put on any website, because I didn't fall into the stupidity game of "Am I being detained?" "Under what authority?" And other anti-Law Enforcement catch phrases.
Respect is absolutely a two way street, and it's never been my fault to be treated with the disrespect I've encountered. You have your thought process, stories and rhetoric. I have my thought process, stories and laws. But my fellow Law Enforcement Officers and I don't hate you because you are not a Law Enforcement Officer.

An assumption. Not a fact. Nothing to base it on, but an assumption.
As you've observed… why not say it's all and across the board. You sir, are biased. I'm not apologizing to you for it. You're an adult.
And given my nine years of Law Enforcement experience, I've never had the desire/ability to do the "corrupt joys of Asset Forfeiture." Another wonderful bias, assuming it happens everywhere.
You are responsible for your perception, but I have a feeling you'd unfortunately be disrespectful towards me, without any prevocation from me.
Those Law Enforcement Officers I work with, are just like me. So, your opinion is bias. Maybe, said movement should spend some time emphasizing the positive Law Enforcement Officers. So many of them post edited videos and others accept it as fact. How are they any better than the "bad cops" they are trying to catch on camera?
Everyone employed by my agency wears a Body Camera. I don't record every interaction with people, because I don't need to record saying hello to people while I'm getting fuel or walking through the Casino. And again, you make another stab saying Law Enforcement is against everyone else, with your comment about the safety of the public.
You absolutely sound anti-Law Enforcement. And I agree, the Justice System is very flawed. Most of those flaws are with Lawyers, Courts and the Elected Officials who create laws. Unfortunately, the Law Enforcement Officer is the one who catches hell for a system others continue to break.

No. Police officers are supposed to evaluate a situation and react accordingly. If it is one or two officers and one perpetrator, and they engage in a fight, hand to hand, they run the risk of that perp gaining control of one of their service weapons. It makes much more sense to draw a service weapon and order the perp to stand down than to try and fight hand to hand. And tasers aren't nearly as effective as everyone wants to believe. It's a good way to jolt someone who is still in their right mind to their senses but it's not a solve all by any means.

Admittedly, this one didn't involve a police shooting ...

The biggest problem I have with post such as this one is that they are NOT credible!!! Anyone that has achieved a BS, BA, Master, or PHD knows what I’m talking about concerning credible reference. This article like many others could not be used to write a paper for any worth while learning institution, as the article fails to provide reference material for the claims they have made in the article. Therefore, its an opinion writhing and NOT credible. I spent a few minutes at FBI.gov (a credible site on the net) and learned that this article is not worth even the ink it cost to print. Yet, it has everyone all spun up and believing it MUST be true. Always, always, always do your own investigation and reference work from only creditable sites. It will assist one from being fooled and looking less than properly informed.
