This has been an issue for a few years. I believe that is why Crimea is no longer part of the Ukraine. They didn't want to lose access to the Dead Sea port.

Nor do they wish to lose a part of the origin of the Russian people, Kiev; or a buffer state

I can see them being admitted to NATO then demanding NATO help them reclaim Crimea and the 1/2 of their country taken over by the Ruskies. Not anytime soon..
