Frankly, the amount of management required to 1st collect taxes and then provide tax returns is a huge cost. The number of loop holes and other such is way too complex. So much of this for corporate, small business and individual taxes can be streamlined. The whole "tax return game" is just that - a game. I'd much rather pay a flat tax on my actual income and have to file on a large postcard.
Frankly, the math is very simple and if implemented correctly those on AD, in the Guard/Reserves or who are SCD/Retirees would be dealt with in a 5% tax bracket as "serving the nation." Such tax rates could be applied to teachers, police, EMS, and other professions that provide this kind of service to the public. Make it a tax incentive to serve and as long as one serves in a defined service group they will have a flat tax in the 5% range.
There is so much red-tape waste in the tax system most of us cannot access that it is nonsense. This can be simpler for corporations, small business and individuals/families and actually generate more revenue when managed in a more transparent manner!
BTW, when tax money is spend on $5,000 toilet seats or crayfish in treadmills it make people angry. There is so much else to say here. Pork-barrel on so many issues is a problem. Frankly, all of us need to have a better handle of information found in these sites:

- https://www.cbo.gov/topics/budget (especially - https://www.cbo.gov/about/transparency)
Just some thought!

The last time we implemented a massive tax cut three things happened:
1. Government went broke (i.e. Deficit grew = less money for Defense)
2. Economy did not expand rather it contracted (i.e. Great Recession...job losses, real estate bubbles bursting)
3. Government had to subsequently raise taxes (Reagan Admin 11 times after initial tax cuts)
