Military training is supposed to be tough and relevant. Racism and unsafe punishments are not part of a program.

As an Army Drill Sergeant I can tell you I trained over 1,500 Soldiers over 2 years. In that time, I never once choked, punched, or called any of my Soldiers terrorist. My focus was on preparing them for combat. They are still someone's son/daughter and trust that we as professionals will be tough and train them efficiently. This disgrace in the article did not hold up to that with which he was charged.

Agreed...

Training is supposed to be tough and comprehensive, but also fair and professional. Racism, unsafe punishments, cadre drunkenness on duty and other allegations do not contribute to military success.

Not sure what to say about this. I know that times have changed, but when I went through boot cam I was called every derogatory name in the book. Maybe we were thicker skinned back in the day, and for the record more than steers and queers come from Texas,

Times have changed because name calling was SOP and didn't hurt me one bit.
