As I was playing with my four-month-old granddaughter at my daughter's apartment, I was just saddened to look up at her, my son-in-law, my son and his girlfriend all sitting at their dining table each thoroughly engrossed on whatever was on that little screen held at arms length. Amazing that a device that can allow me to connect with people thousands of miles away can just as equally separate people inches from each other.

But then my granddaughter giggled and I was back to being happy again.

So much truth. I loved that I had the ability to speak and see my family while we were geographically separated. When I first joined in 83 I could barely afford to call home once a month and when I finally retired in 08 I could Skype with my family for free. But, when I came homemy wife had a small decorative bowl by the front door that she required my kids friends put their phoned in. I didn't understand until I saw a bunch of kids at the mall. They were together and laughing but individually. They were all on their phones, not talking. I'm sure the Walkmans of my era were thought of the same way.
