FPO indeed did recognize the danger when he called ISIS the “JV Team”. That phrase will hang around FPO’s neck just like “read my lips” hung around Bush’s. FPO knew exactly what he was doing, either that or he is completely incompetent. Personally, I don’t believe he was incompetent.

Barry was Inexperienced and had weak alliances with Congress. I was in his WH as a holdover from the GWB admin. I could have advised him but the staff (who largely hated him... or at least the idea of him) were terrified I might help him achieve success, so they transferred me to Langley. Sad, in retrospect.
