Growing up near Hartford CT we would often go on tours of the Colt plant there. I remember they had a section devoted to ideas that never quite made it. Mid 1800s was a hotbed for innovation in guns and Colt had many that never went into production.

Not sure that Colt plant is still there, it was their original plant from the 1850s. I would hope that section made the move to the current plant, but who knows.
