The US has an enormous economy, and that economy is the sum of the economies of 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Great flawed article. All great information for the state, nothing for the person living there. An example would be a gallon of milk. Buying milk in HI is much more expensive than buying milk in DC. Take your salary from #1 Washington and try to live for a year in NYC. Not going to happen. You'll be broke in 4 months. So economies is not just about what the states pay, it has to do with the cost of doing business in that state.

To put a fine point on it, the economy of the United States is the aggregate of all of its citizens. If people would understand and appreciate this simple concept, they would realize the importance of keeping the government out of everyone's personal business
