SGT John " Mac " McConnell Good share- was good to see some humanity and dissension among his followers. Not a great outcome for the plotters and those that aided them.

Have to admit I saw the movie with Tom Cruise which followed this description fairly well including the suspense and tension leading up to the actual incident. It was only by a fluke that the plot did not succeed.

Actually the famous TV show "Mythbusters" did a recreation of the assasination. Sadly, unfortunately, the explosive charge was too small. They had the bomb *ON THE TABLE* and "Hitler" still survived. The heavy leather of the briefcase, plus the amount of people in the room means that although crippled, Hitler would have survived. The explosive force PSI was not that strong though, like a firework, it made a big boom. They kept tweaking the charge and on the fourth or so attempt, they came up with an explosive amount that shredded "Hitler" and would have guaranteed his death.

Peter Wright's book "Spycatcher" goes on to surmise that at that late in the war, he was "better the devil you know." In other words, his incompetence was allowing allied victory and his successors might be a little "more" successful. After all, up until the final whistle blew, the German pilots were still shooting down allied planes, their tanks were still killing tons of allied tanks before their death, etc. So better to have an idiot in charge than someone who actually knew what he was doing... So its possible (as per the book) that the "help" given to the Valkyrie team was deliberately flawed.
