I don't like these type of either or comparisons. It is always the private school college option, which is 4X more expensive than a public or community college.

I grew up on a farm in Fern Creek, KY, I was the last of eight kids and Mom and Dad were just getting by week to week and season to season. There is no help, it is self-help, get to work and start saving.

How about the kids do what many of had to do. Work two or more jobs, especially during the summer, to get enough tuition money and books for the next semester.
That was not enough one year, I took out loans, but I kept it as low as I could because, I knew, 6 months after graduation, it is going to have to paid back & interest.

Perhaps our kids should just have the same 'opportunity' I did. To go to community college or do what many of us did, join a military service and have the service pick up at least part of the cost.

150K in loans for anything means using your brain's planning function to figure out how you are going to make the payments. If you think that will happen with a four year underwater basket weaving degree then God bless your soul.
