ASW is challenging at best, we have taken a huge step backwards in both systems and training. Our only hope is that our subs are there when the bubble goes up.

ASW is hard, and it isn't as "sexy" as shooting SM's. Plus, it is soooo slow. WHen you have compressed training cycles, there is no time to build realistic training scenarios that build in hours long TMA analysis. As an example, I got my orders to be ASWO at ATG, while I was underway. The only ASW I had done was for SWO qual. I asked the CSO if we could run a couple of ASW scenarios so I could get up to speed. It was denied because we didn't have the time... Unfortunately, anymore, if a surface ship is fighting a sub, it is the proverbial knife to a gun fight....
