It's supposed to be a religious practice(it isn't). The lawmakers went after the medical people because they didn't want to be seen as infringing on anyone's religious freedoms. The logic being that it was still legal to want it done but illegal to perform the procedure. We see how well that worked out.

SGT Edward Wilcox - I understand why it's illegal. I'm just surprised the law didn't already hold adults accountable for abuse against a minor; that we need a specific law to make that distinction. Polygamy is considered one's religious freedom; that hasn't stopped lawmakers from infringing on that. Keep in mind, I'm not advocating polygamy, just using it as an example.

MAJ James Woods - I agree. Just trying to explain why I thought they went after the providers first. Personally, any parent who would allow, much less advocate, such a thing to their own children has no business raising children.
