Southern California is at the forefront of this. While some may argue that the vast majority of Illegals are simply hardworking people who just want a better life ( and they are absolutely correct) . There is no reason that Local Law Enforcement Can't assist Immigration Officers by turning over people who are apprehended who are here illegally.
What those that advocate sanctuary cities don't admit is that the presence of such a large, cheap labor force undercuts wages for US citizens who work in the same jobs.
The oft quoted " Illegals do the jobs that Americans are too Lazy to do" is pure bullshit. What illegals do is accept wages that US citizens won't because they want to maintain a proper standard of living.
Construction companies are rife with " day laborers" who work for next to nothing and simply send the money home. Education, Healthcare and other Social Services are doled out without checking citizenship. It's a huge drain on taxpayers. I've not even touched on the prison and legal system.

It's most interesting ... but then some folks get all up set when you call them Illegals ... have to call them undocumented ... to be politically correct...
..."...The immigration think tank cited numbers from the Urban Institute. That group downplayed the crimes and also questioned deporting any of those who are parents of children who might get left behind..."...

Hmmm, when I provide immigration and legal status to law enforcement agencies nationwide, I don't see a tab on my computer that says Undocumented. I see legal, illegal, and other (which includes temporary visitors or workers, even though they are considered to be here legally).

Through some obscene twist, it has become PC to praise, support, aid, and abet illegal activity in the form of those entering the country illegally. (Try entering Mexico or any other country illegally). It would take a shrink to explain how this phenom came about. What part of 'illegal' can't be understood? What about the millions of 'legal' immigrants who have jumped, honestly, through hoops of fire to become citizens and earn the rights and privileges. Illegals will always be illegal in my mind.

There is actually a simple explanation. A large pool of cheap labor for individuals and companies who want to cut costs, and a large block of voters, or at least supporters of a particular political party.
Illegal Immigrants are a boon to government agencies who depend on them to enroll in programs to justify the existence of such programs. Provide crowds to fill the ranks of political protest rallies favoring one Party. and allow busineesmen to stay in the black by cutting costs.
The costs of Illegal Immigration is carried on the shoulders of American Citizens who pay taxes to support these bloated social programs and have to compete for blue collar while getting undercut by those whop work fore far less.
