Yes enjoyed how this article also attacks Legal Immigrants that use welfare programs because they fall into low income categories. Would be interested in seeing these numbers compared to employed/unemployed statistics? If they are working, pay taxes and still fall in the poor category qualifying for welfare, would they still be considered contributing because they are working and paying taxes? If it's the other way around, unemployed on welfare constitutes the majority of immigrants than yes I can see that being an issue but I won't make assumptions just observations.

"Why is this not surprising?"
Probably because it's based on a research from back in 2012... and because no one is surprised that immigrant families with children struggling on near minimum wage salaries require government assistance... even if that assistance is just school lunches.

California doubled-down on supporting illegals. They are stripping their own residents' education budget to provide for illegals. Disgusting!
