What the hell? That’s what OJT is for anyway. How are motivated supposed to learn to swim if they are never allowed to jump into the water? Huh?
Ok, maybe they should have started up m off on something a little less complicated.. like, I dunno, an M-1 one or something. They’re pretty easy to drive and besides that, the driver gets to recline some too. Having to sit up in a seat makes pivtea tired anyway.
And they say they couldn’t find a ground guide for comment? How about putting out the damn fire and looking under the vehicle! Maybe he’s a private too and doesn’t want to get his as chewed for causing his buddy to flip a perfectly good piece of equipment. I can see that ass cueing coming from three clicks out! C’mon guys. Use a little brain power here. At least don’t report the ground guide as AWOL until somebody finds his gear stacked neatly with the note he left. Couldn’t be found indeed!
At any rate, the Army has plenty of vehicles just sitting around at logistics points all over the place. Just go grab another one and take it from there....
Some people just don’t think anymore. DAMN YOU, DONALD TRUMP!!!!

In 1964, at a Ft. Riley motor pool, I was performing first echelon maintenance on my assigned M-38A1 (Jeep) when the HQ Co. motor sergeant (SFC E-7) told me to drive a 2 1/2 ton truck to a particular range, retrieve, & transport a platoon of Infantrymen to their Company area. I informed him I wasn't licensed to drive anything bigger than a 3/4 ton vehicle. The sergeant said, "I didn't ask what you are licensed to drive, I ordered you to take that deuce-&-a-half & get those troops!" Of course, I did as ordered. Fortunately, I didn't tip the truck over & kill someone but have wondered what the NCO's response would have been had I done so.
