They Army pays this out all the time state side, why did Europe decide to stop paying. When I was called up to support BCT at Ft. Jackson, we received BAH for our home of residence and had to file a voucher monthly for off post housing that was set up by the post. They paid a huge sum for those apartments.

The Soldiers generally opted to reside off post rather than in the on post lodging that was provided. I was lucky to have an acceptable bed in Landstuhl, but it was a fiasco convincing a bunch of bitter civilians that us meer reservists should be getting so much in BAH and OHA...

In 2008 they sent me to Ft. Hood to work with the WTU, I was supposed to live on post, go over to housing and they said we have no room for Reservist, so they gave me a number that I had to put on a travel voucher and file for per diem every month and get a new number every month, they allotted me 39.00 per day for room, and partial food per diem since the allowed us to eat at the hospital cafeteria during the work day. But I received BAH since my family was back home.

Sadly, this is not the first time this has occurred. A few years back, a bunch of Calif Natl Guard troops were ordered to pay back $1000’s due to improper reenlistment bonuses. They didn’t ask for the bonuses, they were given to them by recruiters. It literally took some military friendly congressmen to step in to resolve the issue.
I have had issues myself with the GTC (Government Travel Card) system. Per policy, I use the GTC for my military expenses (mostly hotel costs). I then submit my paperwork on time. But the finance folks tend to drag their feet in paying the credit card bill. The Wing will then get a list of delinquent GTC payments. My CC gets yelled at, then I get yelled at because the Air Force doesn’t pay the bill on time. Which is frustrating because it’s THEIR bill in the first place. I pay my personal credit card bills on time, why can’t the AF? Every year I go through this.
I miss the old days when the AF was direct billed and left me out of the entire process.
