Fact is the Navy is not like the Army or Air Force, remember the Air Force was the Army Air Corp so it makes sense that they followed the Air Force ranking and MOS type structure. Then Navy rating and title system is based on the British Navy and goes back to the earliest days of written history to include Troy. In 1775 this was a necessity as all of the US Navy came from primarily Britain but at least the two other seafaring powers of that era, France, and Spain. So we had to adopt the language of the seas so to say. Granted they only had “Seaman” at that time and we evolved to integrate additional specialties and become the envy of the world. Our Navy is hands down the ruler of the seas never before has a nation owned such a prestigious title over multiple generations. So to change all of that now to “brings us more in line with the other services”, which really means the Army, is preposterous. The Navy and Army have maintained this separate system close to 250 years and it has served us both well.

They claim the reason was to “brings us more in line with the other services”, which really means the Army so how do you get a plural out of that.
