Richard Ira Bong - The Deadliest American Pilot in WWII

Number 2 man, Thomas McGuire also flew a P-38 Lightning. He ended the war with 39 kills, one behind Bong. Thomas died in combat tho, diving too low to escape a bogie. Both men were excellent deflection shooters and their tactics and techniques are studied to this day.
