He did know. He possibly did care. Or did he? Interesting that not a single concentration/death camp was bombed by the allies. USAAC had tons of friendly fire incidents (one which came to within an inch of Stalin putting his foot up Truman's ass) yet, nothing but precision bombing on and around the camp sites.
Then, for added fun, look at where the USA suggested the new home for Israel be. "Hey - we know you're all cold blooded Europeans used to low temperatures, but we're gonna give you a chunk of land that barely dips below 100 degrees. And to make it even more fun, its surrounded by people who want you even more dead than the Nazi's..."
The best line in Schindler's list is when the Jews are liberated and have no idea what to do and a Russian soldier approaches on horseback. They ask him where they should go. His answer is priceless, but sadly; true. "Don't go East; they hate you there. Don't go West; they hate you there too."
