I think this article did a goid job describing how individuals can hold conflicting beliefs, and how there is a nuance on many things. But this bumps up against a political world where it seems it is demanded that everyone be clearly black or white (or maybe better put red or blue) with no room for any inbetween and no compromise.

The article is flawed. It pretends to project what values Christians support based on who they are voting for. That's not how democracy works. In a democracy, we have the freedom to chose our leaders. The requirement for endorsement or "support" is not needed. In the end, we vote based on who with think is going to advance our interests the best. Clearly, many Christians believed that Roy Moore would protect the religious community over that of Doug Jones. Had the modern world mixed in with antiquity Rome, Christians would have probably voted for the Emperor who would have killed the fewest Christians regardless of which Roman god or goddess the two candidates professed.

In deep red AL, it was the Republicans' race to lose. Only by running this guy did they wake up the sleeping tigers that usually votes R or do not vote at all. I don't believe the vote was between Christians and non-Christians, or that all Christians were worried about their religious liberty (and if they were, they aren't very well read). In fact many of them went to the other side (or did a write in or didn't vote) because they did not believe his Christianity reflected theirs (he's a bigot and got fired twice for not following the law), and that he could not represent all the people in Alabama.

Roy Moore lost because the majority of registered voters didn’t vote and 20,000 Republicans voted for a write in candidate.

Roy Moore lost because the African American community mobilized like they never have before, flexes their political power and kept a disgusting bigot and Christian theocrat from harming their interests.
ALL Americans owe the Alabama Black electorate a debt of thanks, except for the crazy-tent Christian Sharia Breitbart crowd that is.

LTC (Join to see) - I’m not going to argue with you especially since you brought race into a discussion that wasn’t necessary. I’ll just say to go look at the stats of who voted and who didn’t and then look at the difference in vote count.

Roy Moore almost won because White Evangelicals overwhelmingly supported the pedophile bigot.
