Unfortunately, the fixes will be mere band-aids. The problem is inherent in chip design philosophy which prioritized speed over security --- it's not just a software problem.

A cure/pasts can provide complete protection, the CPU power required to do so is greatly in question with numbers between 5 and 30 Percent performance cut being thrown around. A bad week for tech customers, both Apple and Intel cutting performance to fix their own mistakes.

Thgatr battle is unlikely to every end, with governments sponsoring a lot of hacking and folks like the NSA losing hacking tools to the wild. It is like the ever shifting military balance of power between the offense and the defense.
