Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that after the bloody Bolshevik revolution of 1917, the new Russian government signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk with the Central Powers, abandoning the Allied war effort and granting independence to its Polish and Baltic territories, the Ukraine, and Finland. Of course as we all know once Russia became the USSR it gobbled up nations to the south throughout Eurasia.
