I'll wait until they're finished developing it before I pan it. A lot of American planes started out the same way, planning for an engine that wasn't fully developed by the time they needed to stick them on the planes. That didn't stop us from putting out good fighters at a later point in time.

And anyway, modern Russian fighters can maneuver in ways American fighters can only dream about. Different mindsets, different doctrines.

Remember the battle of Kursk, German tanks had superiority, but sheer numbers of low tech won the battle.

The Russians have always trailed the west in metallurgy. The stress on the internal engine parts of modern jet engines is extreme. I would be interested to see what their new engine performs like
