Progressivism and Leftism in the United States is not communism. It's not even socialism. It's the product of intellectual snobbery. Woodrow Wilson, the titular father of American Progressivism was an intellectual who chaffed at the constraints of the Constitution. He believed that intellectuals should govern those less well endowed and he argued aggressively for a more powerful Executive Branch, one free of the annoying balance of powers. When the Frankfort School was established in the US to promote socialism, they built on Wilson's ideas. After all, how can the state establish fairness unless it has the power to decide what is fair?
