The wild weasel program in Vietnam was one of the most fascinating stories in modern aircraft to me. The fact so many pilots flew such suicidal missions to keep other pilots and bombers safe shows the sacrifice that our forces will make to protect our brothers and sisters in arms.

The Air Force museum in Dayton, OH has an amazing wild weasel display if you ever go.

Maj Jeff “Tico” Tice and Capt Mike “Cujo” Roberts did not have such a good encounter with SA-3s, west of Baghdad, Jan 19, 1991. Both were shot down, ejected, and were immediately captured. The F-4G “Wild Weasels” already ran out of HARMs. The force of 48 F-16s was lucky to lose only two—though Tice and Roberts didn’t feel so lucky at the hands of their Iraqi interrogators.
