We are in a dangerous business. If we don't train to the level that has given us the most formidable special operations military we will lose more in combat. Death is an unwelcome companion through out a military career. If there was negligence it will be found and people punished. It would be devastating to lose a family member in this manner, but we all knew/know the risks when we volunteered to serve.

Yes you are too right. That was my exact thought also. We hope to not get deployed, and then we hope not to die in combat. But that is EXACTLY what we sign on the dotted line for....NOT GET COLLEGE MONEY. that is the incentive and is always secondary to serving our country. We push the serving country part into the back of our minds all to often and we even play "civilian" more than we should be just to escape the feeling of serving. But at the end of the hard work day....we belong to the Gov't until that blessed DD 214 is in our hands. It is sad to loose a battle. I am sure he knew the risks and what was on the line.

To put it in retrospect, even when someone kills someone in self defense, it is still a homicide. It does not mean anyone is guilty of a crime. It just means the person died at the cause of someone else. At worst, this would be considered involuntary manslaughter.
