Trump was just there in front of the 55 states and told them to combat terrorism in their midst and to get harder on it. 4 states cut off Qatar after comments that were pro-Iranian and against the US. Tillerson encourages them to work it out amongst themselves.

I would say we are getting exactly what we want. That is, middle east nations pushing out those that support terrorism. Will it work out? hard to say but your take away that the issue here was that the DOS was caught unawares is not really supported by the story. How were they caught unawares? My guess is there was a back channel on this action to the US.

Interesting. Especially the part where Qatari leaders are aligning themselves with Iran thus the response from Saudi and Sunni led nations was to isolate and punish Qatar. Oops. US has miltary strategic interests in Qatar so be interesting to see how we react.
