Unfortunately, this mindset comes courtesy of the media, an all too willing Congress, and politically minded general officers

Sir, that is the 100% truth and it is sad. I hate the fact that the media, public opinion, and entitled "young generation" sway the course of the Military and this "New Army".

I totally agree.
The only course that is left is to never have sex with anyone before marriage.
Dating is becoming more dangerous than the battle field in many respects.
If a person is shot on the battle field the population looks with admiration at that person.
If a person goes on a date and there is any sexual relations and one party decides later that they should not of agreed to have consensual sex.
Well guess what,,,, they get the legal right to switch their decision and the law will willingly follow that tactic.
So now what if one of the people in that sexual event wants to use this known method to gain something or to wreck someone Else's career ?
The law will surely not stop them, in fact it will coddle and help them every step of the way.

It's very sad to say at the least.
Because there are scum bags out their raping and that does need to stop and be corrected.
But this new practice is lynching way too many innocent people and glorifying monsters.

I agree! You mentioned waiting to have Sex until marriage the sad thing is well over half of the 193 cases that SOH has are ex wives whom made allegations while going through either a divorce or custody dispute. The thing is in almost all these cases it's the servicememeber that wanted the divorce and they were told "I will ruin your career" they held true to their word because many are sitting in Leavenworth or Mirimar now. I am not oblivious to the fact that rape happens but this has become way out of control.

Would it be safe to say that it has been weaponized?

MSgt Lisa Silva - well yes MSgt, but rape CAN and DOES still happen in marriages....I mean what burden of proof would you like these women to bring to the table in order to not be labeled 'false accusers'?

Cant we also all agree that rape DOES happen in the military tho? I mean jesus, my former plt commander was doing this shit to females under his command and was rightfully punished for it. It's not even just a female problem honestly. Men get raped in the service too- shit is real and for a long long time, the military was so concerned about their reputation etc etc that they actively tried to silence people from speaking out, and this too is still happening. Not to mention the prevailing culture of machismo and 'strength' in the military that actively discourages and often punishes anyone even complaining or voicing their opinion (especially to a someone who outranks you), let alone actively speaking out against anything.

I think what we're seeing is a severe reaction to a very real problem.

I AGREE THAT FALSE ACCUSERS SHOULD THEMSELVES FACE PUNISHMENT- however that being said, it would be extremely short sighted and overly simplistic to just say that. Rape is very difficult to prove (ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE MARRIED) unless you literally go to the doctor or police immediately afterward and get swabbed, or by some miracle have video or eyewitness proof. The burden of proof has always historically laid with the victim and the benefit of the doubt with the accused. There are plenty of power dynamics at play here, not the least of which are gender based or rank based.

Now ironically, in an attempt to once again protect their reputation, the military is overcorrecting in an attempt to prove that they have taken this issue seriously all along, or in the very least to clear their name of their laissez faire attitude which they previous took toward it. Its happening on college campuses all across the country as well.

The fact of the matter remains that rape cases (and allegations) SHOULD be taken seriously. We need to be training our people to not put themselves in these situations to begin with.

WE DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY should not be encouraging our service members to get married too soon!!! If we tell our service members that they shouldn't have sex until they're married were not going to solve the problem-- we're just going to have a packed chapel the following weekend. That is NOT the answer brother I swear! I have seen waaaaay too many of these military marriages ruin careers and lives and futures simply because getting married before your ready is a BAD idea. Beyond even this point however, I think is the much more important one, in which RAPE STILL OCCURS IN MARRIAGES!!! Just because you are married to someone does not give them the right to fuck you without consent!!! Marriage does not make you someone's property. Despite some very outdates patriarchal verbiage in certain legal systems which may make this point mildly unclear, no one can legally force someone else to have sex with them regardless of your relationship status.

We would be better off spending our resources on training our men and women to be more careful and to not put themselves in questionable situations. We also need to take seriously the reality that rapes DO occur at an alarming rate in the military, and do everything we can to train our people properly and put in safeguards to stop this.
