There are people who are determined to extinguish every vestige of religion from our society and culture, even ones as tenuous as Halloween. We even have a couple representatives of this movement right here on RP. They self-identify as "atheists" but I believe they would be more correctly identified as "antitheists". To be fair, we all swore an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution which includes the "Anti-Establishment Clause" of the First Amendment. However, I fail to see how children celebrating Halloween serves to establish an official state or national religion. Sadly, these "Antitheists" have reinterpreted the plain language of the Constitution to promote all sorts of ideas and found some jurists inclined to support them in their cause. Thus, we are now fighting against the proposition that the prohibition against an official religion is meant to protect us from the voluntary practice of religion by those who choose to do so. Sadly, their success thus far has encouraged them to look for more battlegrounds and the fantasy of Halloween is now in their sights.

I don't understand the theory of we cannot celebrate the holiday by it's name, but we can change the name and then still celebrate.

Sounds like our school system here where I live, they've dropped a lot of the things we did as kids, and turned them into something totally different so as not to alienate those who's beliefs don't allow or believe in these holidays or special occasions. What's next no more Memorial Day?
